The error occurs when you try to load a certain game that you already have, but the download simply does not start. In our example above, we tried to download a version of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War for PS5, but got stuck on this screen. Going to the download queue on PS5 shows that the download is really not running and there are no errors.

How to fix the PS 5 bug in the boot queue

Well, good news and bad news – this error can be corrected, but the solution will be far from ideal. IGN reports that a complete cleaning of the PS5 system will solve the problem, but that means you will have to re-download all your existing games. And if you don’t have PlayStation Plus, you will have to use the built-in PS5 backup tool to save your PS5 save files because the console doesn’t allow you to export save data from your PS5 games to a USB stick.

Keep in mind that this problem seems to be quite common and is likely to be one of the first fixes on the list for the first PlayStation 5 firmware update. While this will affect one download, it does not prevent you from downloading other games, so if you are patient, you can wait with this problem. This is provided that Sony can quickly fix it, which is unknown to anyone.

If you do decide to do this: to reset PlayStation 5 to the factory settings, click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the main screen to enter the system settings. Go to “System” and from there select “Reset Settings” and then “Reset Console”. You will need to confirm that you are ready to erase all data on the console. Once you do this, you will lose everything that was not backed up for. And this should theoretically solve the problem.

What causes a PS 5 error “In the boot queue”.

At the moment there is no official explanation for the error “In the download queue”, but according to our anecdotal experience, it happened when we tried to download something (in our case a massive installation file Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War of 140 GB), without paying attention to the warning that pops up – “there is not enough free space for downloading”. So, if you’re worried about it, just be careful what you download – watch how fast you fill the internal memory of PS5.
