In the first chapter of the game Cloud and Barrett will penetrate into the deepest niches of the Mako reactor together. Once there, you will be asked to set the timer and choose how long you need before it goes off. You will have a choice between 20 or 30 minutes.

The short answer is, it doesn’t matter what you choose. The timer will not work until after the battle with the guard, so you don’t need to worry about not being able to finish the battle in time. And in both variants – Cloud will still get the promised amount of Jill as soon as you return to Sector 7, so just choose whatever you want.

The only difference is the dialogue with Barrett after you make your choice.
