Jason Schreier from Kotaku claims that Google Stadia’s pre-orders were significantly below expectations. He was informed of this by “someone” involved in the Stadia sales process. Before the launch of the free version, Premier package preorders are the only way to evaluate user interest
Google Stadia started today and it looks like a monumental mistake. (I heard from one person involved in the pre-order process that sales are below expectations). The only question is whether they’ll stop selling games by moving on to “play all at once for the subscription price” or whether they’ll let Stadia die.Jason Schreier
However, it’s very early to say that the fate of Stadia is sad, because, according to Schreier, Google gathers gaming studios to create exclusives.
I don’t think Google is going to give up on Stadia that quickly — they’re building multiple game studios as we speak — but it was always asinine to think they could sell games at full price on this thing. Need to pivot, even if it means losing some of the biggest AAA games— Jason Schreier (@jasonschreier) November 19, 2019
