Saber Interactive has released a new off-road driving simulator that boasts incredibly realistic physics and a wide variety of off-road vehicles. However, the computer version, unfortunately, can not be called ideal because of a lot of technical errors. A large number of players complain that SnowRunner does not start, slows down, takes off, lets down, freeze or shows a black screen. Fortunately, most of these bugs can be fixed and in this guide we will tell you how to do it.
First of all, you need to look at the minimum system requirements of this simulator, and then compare them with the characteristics of your PC. If your configuration does not reach the required parameters, we recommend to update it. Otherwise you may not be surprised by brakes and hangs.
OS: 64-bit Windows 7, 8 or Windows 10
CPU: Intel Core i3-4130 or AMD Ryzen 3 2200U
RAM: 8 gigabytes.
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 or AMD Radeon R9 270
Hard drive: 20 gigabytes of free space
If your computer fully complies with the above minimum requirements, but SnowRunner is still flying out or is severely freezing, then you need to update or install several programs. First of all, download the latest drivers for your graphics accelerator: NVIDIA or Radeon. Then you should download the latest or necessary versions of Microsoft DirectX, .Net Frameworks and Visual C++. In most cases, this software is enough to run any game without errors.
SnowRunner does not start
If a game does not start on Windows 7 and produces an error with advapi32.dll, you should visit the official Microsoft Internet portal (above) and download the KB3080149 update. If another similar error occurs, google the error type and then install the necessary updates.
If the installation process went well, but nothing happens after the simulator launch (even the error window does not open), then the problem is probably related to your antivirus. Find the folder where you installed SnowRunner, then open the antivirus and move the found directory to exceptions. You can also try to turn off the protection program completely.
Some users note that it helps them to run the game from an administrator. To do this, point the mouse pointer at the desired shortcut, click on PCM and select the appropriate option.
This project will not run on PCs with processors that do not support SSE 4.1 and 4.2 protocols. The same problem occurs on Intel Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors as well as AMD Phenom. Here we can only advise you to change the hardware or wait for the patch.
This off-road race may not start due to such trivial reasons as installation error or lack of free space on HDD (SSD). Again, be sure to download all the latest drivers and programs mentioned above and check your computer for minimum system requirements.
SnowRunner closes out and freezes out.
There are several most common types of departures. If you managed to install and launch the game, but it flies to your desktop right after the start of the single mode, try a few simple steps (for NVIDIA graphics card owners):
Open the “NVIDIA Control Panel” by right-clicking on the desktop and clicking the desired option.
Go to the software settings section and find SnowRunner.
Find the “Specify Settings for this program” tab and uncheck the “SnowRunner-FXAA” option.
Now try to start the game again.
If the departures are already in the game itself, and in the same place, it may be a bug made by the developers. Try to start the project on behalf of the Administrator or lower the graphics settings in the problem area (change the resolution). Sometimes these methods help to get rid of hangs.
Random departures and hang-ups can also be blamed on your iron, especially if problems occur after a certain period of time, for example 30 minutes after the game has started. Most likely, your video card or processor is overheating – you should measure their temperature in peak mode using special software (AIDA64). Try also to reduce the graphics settings to reduce the load on your computer.
Friezes, lags and low FPS in SnowRunner
There are several standard methods to solve performance problems:
Open the “Computer Control Panel” and select “Power”. Then find the PC modes of operation and change the option to “Productive”.
Be sure to close all third-party applications before you start the game, as they may overload your CPU and “eat” your precious RAM. Of course, be sure to exit your browser. We also advise you to clean your computer from all kinds of “junk” with the CCleaner software.
After starting SnowRunner, open Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and go to Processes. Find the title of the game you want, right-click on it and select “High Priority”.
You should also change the values of the graphical settings. Options such as shadow quality, anti-aliasing (MSAA), texture detail (with low video memory), and additional NVIDIA effects such as HairWorks and racing affect frame rates the most.
Black screen in SnowRunner
Usually this error occurs when the necessary drivers are missing or a small bug appears. It can be solved by updating the software or launching the game in window mode (Alt+Enter). In the latter case, when the picture appears again, specify the full screen mode in the game options.
Let us add that at the very beginning a black screen may appear for a few minutes. In this case, you should just wait until it disappears itself.
In some cases, a black screen may appear due to overheating of components or their lack of power. Here we can only recommend that you change your video card to a more powerful one or check its performance.
Saving in SnowRunner does not work.
Usually this error occurs due to the presence of Russian letters in the directory leading to the preservation of the game. Just change the name of the folder using Latin letters.
