Didn’t know where to find Xuan’s bookmaker with a scar on his face in Shenmue 3? Today in our guide on passing we will tell you where the bookmaker is and how to win it to pass the quest given in the early stages of the game.
Where to find a bookie with a scar on his face
To find a bookmaker with a scar on his face, go back to the village and find games on the left side. Talk to a man named Xuan Shangtsun.
To get the information you need, you must defeat Xuan in battle. It won’t be so easy to defeat him, so you should first prepare for the battle and train.
How to defeat Xuan’s bookie in Shenmue 3
The easiest way to do this is to buy Snake Power in the Toa-Get store, which will allow you to refill your health in battle.
The problem is that it is not cheap – 270 yuan – which is outside your price range. You can cut firewood in the shop a couple of times to get them, but otherwise, we would recommend the training to increase your strength as recommended by the game. This will take a little longer but will benefit you throughout the game.
To practice, go to the Martial Hall – a dojo in front of the Green Bridge – which allows you to pair up (increasing attack strength and improving moves) and use wooden dummies (increasing your endurance).
We recommend that you exp both levels so that your kung fu is at level 2. For us, this required four wooden dummies and two sparring sessions. Not only will this give you a better view of the battle system in the game, but it will also give you a little more power and attack strength for the upcoming battle.
You also need to make sure that you are in full stamina before the battle – it means that you are eating to make your green indicator reach its maximum. The most effective way to do this is to eat black garlic, from which you only need to eat a handful to fully replenish your endurance.
The cheapest place to get it is in the Tao shop – 9 yuan against 12 yuan in the vegetable shop on the square. Worth the inconvenience of talking there from the village to save money, we would say!
When you’re ready, fight Xuan again. Your training – or Snake Force consumption when you’re not healthy – will matter here.
Don’t forget to retreat (or block with L2) whenever an attack occurs and when it is knocked down, be cheap and attack it just as it rises again, so it cannot easily defend itself against it.
Although you shouldn’t just press the buttons, remember to assign a trained move to R2 as a shortcut (press L1 and R1 to cycle through your learned moves) and spam instead. This will be more powerful than hitting random attacks, and you will be able to better predict the time around Xuan’s moves.
